Every year, Urhobo communities from across North America convene at the Urhobo Progress Union America (UPUA) annual convention, and UPUC proudly sends its delegation. The 2025 convention was a gathering of shared purpose — Urhobo people from dozens of cities reaffirming the ties of language, heritage, and mutual progress that bind them across borders. UPUC's participation reflects our deep commitment to the broader Urhobo diaspora and our belief that a strong global network strengthens every local community within it.

The annual UPUC Family Picnic is the heartbeat of our community calendar. Each summer, members and families come together beneath the Calgary sky — wearing their UPUC colours, sharing Urhobo food and music, and celebrating the bonds that make this union more than an organisation. The 2026 gathering was a reminder that home is wherever your people are. For families who arrived in Calgary years ago and for those still finding their footing, the picnic offers exactly that: the warmth of community, the joy of belonging, and the reassurance that none of us walks this journey alone.

Giving back to Calgary is one of the most important things UPUC does. In March 2026, members rolled up their sleeves and volunteered at the Calgary Food Bank, contributing hours of work to an organisation that supports thousands of Calgarians in need each year. It is a quiet but meaningful act: the same city that welcomed Urhobo families decades ago, that gave them educational opportunities and room to build their lives, deserves a community that gives generously in return. These are the moments that remind us what Together We Stand truly means — not just for ourselves, but for the broader Calgary community we are proud to call home.
